2015 Coaching Staff

Scott Mansell

 

Head Coach/Athletic Director

 

Coach Mansell begins his 21st year of coaching this year. He has been a Defensive Coordinator for 17 years. This is his second season as Head Coach. Coach Mansell played at the collegiate level at Mississippi State and Samford University. Past coaching stops include Walker, Cullman, Sparkman and Bob Jones. Coach Mansell has a son and a daughter. Austin, his 20-year-old son, is in ministry school and is a volunteer coach at Sumiton Christian. Ashlee, his 15-year-old daughter, attends Walker High School and is a member of the color guard.

 

 

Jeff Harris

 

Assistant Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator

 

Coach Harris begins his third year with Hueytown High School. He will serve as the Offensive Coordinator and also work with all offensive skill positions. He began his career as a Student Assistant Coach at Homewood High School where he learned under two Alabama Sports Hall of Fame inductees, Gerald Gann and Bob Newton. During this span, Homewood won four regional championships and had one appearance in the 1990 State Championship game. In 1994, Coach Harris began his teaching and coaching career in the Hoover City School System after graduating from UAB with a degree in Physical Education. He served as the Head Football Coach and Athletic Director at Berry Middle School and finished with winning multiple championships and a winning record greater than 70% over a nine year period. Coach Harris also assisted with Running Backs at Hoover High School for four years and experienced four consecutive trips to the State Championship game and learned the daily operations of an elite football program.

 

In 2003, Coach Harris became the Receivers Coach and Special Teams Co-Coordinator at Mountain Brook High School where the Spartans led the state in several offensive categories during his time there. He was selected to coach in the Alabama vs. Mississippi AllStar Class in 2006. Harris left Mountain Brook in 2009 to become the Head Football Coach and Associate Athletic Director at Oak Mountain High School. Coach Harris and his wife Kristie have been married for 15 years and have a daughter, Maci, and a son, Judson.

 

 

 

Trent Campbell

 

Secondary

 

Coach Campbell begins his fourth year at Hueytown as the Defensive Backs coach. Coach Campbell began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at UAB where he assisted with the Defensive Backs and Special Teams. His next coaching job was at Minor High School for two years where he was the Defensive Backs coach and coordinated the coverage portion of the defense. Coach Campbell graduated from Oak Grove High School and attended UAB where he earned a B.A. in history and a master�s degree in education. He is married to the former Valerie Pruden, and they have a daughter, Ivey, who will be two years old this year.

 

 

 

Drew Barnett

 

Offensive Line

 

Coach Barnett is in his eighth year of coaching football, and his second stop at Hueytown. In 2013 Coach Barnett served as Head Football Coach at Southeastern High School. Prior to Southeastern he served as Defensive Coordinator at Locust Fork High School as well as Linebackers coach at Hueytown High. Coach Barnett received his Bachelor's degree from ACoach Barnett is in his eighth year of coaching football and his second stop at Hueytown. Before returning to Hueytown, he served as Head Football Coach at Southeastern High School. Prior to Southeastern, he served as Defensive Coordinator at Locust Fork High School, as well as Linebackers coach at Hueytown High. Coach Barnett received his bachelor�s degree from Athens State in Social Science and his master�s degree in Sports Management from the University of Alabama. Coach Barnett is married to Kayla Barnett and they have one son, Weston. thens State in Social Science and his Master's degree in Sports Management from the University of Alabama. Nick Neura

 

Defensive Line

 

Coach Neura played High School football at Shades Valley High School from 2000 -2004. He played college football at Tusculum College from 2004-2008. Coach Neura coached the freshman offensive line at Clay-Chalkville High School from 2008-2009. He then volunteered at the University of Alabama at Birmingham as a student assistant coach from 2009 to 2010. He became a Graduate Assistant football coach at UAB from 2010 to 2012. He then coached the Tight Ends and Offensive Line at Homewood High School from 2012 to 2014. Coach Neura is married to his wife Tricia. Coach Neura and his wife have two children, Payton who is five-years-old, and Nathan who is three-yearsold.

 

 

 

Keith Ray

 

Defensive Backs/Corners

 

Coach Keith Ray begins his first year with Hueytown High School as the Defensive Backs/Corners Coach. He began his career as an Assistant Defensive Coach at Elmore County High School. He later joined the Jefferson Davis High School football staff as the Defensive Backs Coach and later served as Defensive Coordinator and Special Teams Coordinator. While at Jeff Davis, Coach Ray also worked with Running Backs. Coach Ray also served as an Assistant Coach at Montgomery Academy where he worked with Defensive Backs and served as Special Teams Coordinator.

 

 

 

Roger Haynes

 

Defensive Coordinator

 

Coach Haynes is in his first year at Hueytown. He served as Head Football Coach for nine years at Sparkman High School (6A) and three years at Sylvania High School (3A). For four years, he worked as Defensive Coordinator and Head Baseball Coach at Tuscaloosa County High School (6A). Before that, he served one year as Defensive Coordinator and Assistant Head Basketball Coach at Pascagoula High School (6A) in Mississippi. For three years, Coach Haynes was Defensive Line Coach, Assistant Head Basketball Coach, and Head Baseball Coach at North Jackson High School (5A). He served one year as Assistant Head Basketball Coach at Scottsboro High School (5A) and two years at Section High School (2A) as Defensive Coordinator and Assistant Head Basketball Coach. Vinemont High School was where Coach Haynes worked as Head Basketball Coach, Assistant Varsity Football Coach, and Assistant Head Baseball Coach. In both 2004 and 2008, Coach Haynes was awarded the Region 8 Coach of the Year when he served at Sparkman. In 2006, he was presented with the Alabama Football Coaches Association 6A State Coach of the Year award. Coach Haynes has two daughters, Kristen Haynes Walker (25) and Sara Kathryn Haynes (10).

 

 

 

Robert Winslett

 

Assistant Offensive Line Coach

 

Robert Winslett is the Assistant Offensive Line Coach and a former Golden Gopher. He graduated from Hueytown High School in 2013. Currently, he is a student at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa where he is majoring in physical education.
